10 Ideas For the Ultimate Girls’ Weekend in Boston

As I get older, I value time with my girlfriends more and more. It seems like as the years go on, schedules get crazier, we all seem to get busier, and often, we find ourselves hundreds or even thousands of miles apart. Fortunately, most of my girlfriends don’t live too far away. But, it’s no secret that getting all of the girls together again can be difficult to do. Why not plan a girls’ weekend in Boston?!

One of my favorite ways to make it happen? Do something where everyone has to spend a bit of money so that people are less likely to back out at the last minute. What’s more perfect than a girls’ getaway? Here are 10 ideas for a girls’ weekend in Boston that DON’T include Paint Night…. Because no, I don’t want to take home my crappy painting 😉.

10 Ideas For a Girls’ Weekend in Boston

1. Tea Time at the Boston Public Library

Believe it or not, the Boston Public Library has a restaurant in their courtyard with an appropriate name, The Courtyard Restaurant. For $49, you can get an assortment of tea sandwiches and “sweet bites.” I’m normally not a “go for tea” kind of girl at all, but there’s something so silly, yet elegant about this that’s bound to have you laughing about it for years to come. What’s not to love about feeling fancy for a couple of hours?! You can find the menu for tea time here.

2. Drinks on the Envoy Roof Deck

The Lookout Rooftop and Bar at the Envoy Hotel in the Seaport boasts one of the best views of the entire city of Boston. If going “out-out” isn’t your thing anymore, they open at 4pm on weekdays and at 12pm on weekends. They have a unique cocktail list, cozy couches, and panoramic views of the city of Boston. Cheers to that!

3. Lounge in the Pool at the Revere Hotel’s Rooftop Pool

Are you noticing a trend here? I know I can’t be the only one who enjoys a good rooftop spot! The Revere Hotel is a luxury hotel located near the Boston Common. Literally the perfect location for a night out in Boston, but what’s a little bit less known is that they have a rooftop pool available for anyone. On Saturdays and Sundays from May to September, you can access the rooftop pool for $30 a person. On Mondays through Fridays in June, July, and August, you can access it for $20 a person. Hotel guests of course can access the rooftop for free (maximum of four people). If you’re feeling fancy, you can rent a cabana or a couch and get bottle service. Note: After 8PM, you must be 21 years old to access the pool. You can find more info here about accessing the rooftop pool.

4. Have an Instagram-able Brunch at Tatte Bakery

At first glance, Tatte Bakery might seem like one of those places that’s far too fancy for locals to go there religiously. Not the case at all. Whether you’re a tourist, local, or something in between, there’s one thing everyone can agree on: Tatte Bakery is out of this world. There’s a reason they have six locations in Boston and Cambridge and more on the way. This place is just so darn good (and so pretty!) I might add, that I would go there every single day if my bank account wouldn’t hate me. While each location is a bit different, most include beautiful granite countertops that overlook the street, elegant white interior, granite tables and/or beautifully reclaimed wood tables, fresh flowers, and a menu that makes you realize why the line is out the door on a Saturday morning. A couple of my favorites: their egg sandwich, egg tartine, almond croissants, and their creme brulee pastry. Tip: Get there early on the weekends! It gets extremely busy.

5. Go to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is just one Boston’s gems and one that many people who aren’t locals, don’t know about. There are beautiful gardens (both interior and exterior), contemporary art, and exhibitions. You can walk as you please or take a guided tour. It was built to evoke a 15th-century Venetian palace, and in my eyes, they definitely succeeded. It’s insanely gorgeous. The garden courtyard is a must see!

6. Have a Drink While Overlooking Fenway Park

Whether you’re a Red Sox fan or not, this is perhaps one of the coolest spots in Boston that still remains a bit unknown. Bleacher Bar, located on Landsdowne Street next to Fenway Park is one of the coolest bars I’ve ever been to in my life to date. In relation to Fenway Park, it’s located beneath the bleachers in Center Field, and when games aren’t currently live, they have a window that looks directly into Center Field and all of Fenway Park. However, as soon as a game starts, the window closes so you can no longer see inside Fenway Park. Even if you aren’t a Red Sox fan, this is the kind of spot that’s worth going to at least once.

7. Shop & Eat on Newbury Street

Going to Newbury Street is a must when visiting Boston. While it may have a reputation for being solely luxury boutiques, these days, there’s definitely a mix of shops. Whether you’re trying to score a designer item or are hoping to check out a more local boutique, you can definitely find a place to shop no matter your budget. A couple of my favorites: Cuyana, Jack Wills, Lit Boutique, Joie, Zara, Vince, Frye, and No Rest for Bridget. Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, it’s still fun to walk around Newbury Street and window shop or people watch. Another reason to visit Newbury Street – the al fresco dining. Whenever I have friends visiting, it always seems like the number one spot that comes to mind for dining or grabbing drinks. Here’s a few of my favorites: Cafeteria (for brunch or lunch), La Voile (dinner), Mother Juice (best smoothies). And for a few of my favorite places to eat that are near Newbury Street: Lolita (best margaritas) Dig Inn (healthy and Instagrammable lunch), and Saltie Girl (great new seafood spot).

8. Walk Around Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill is perhaps the cutest neighborhood in all of Boston, and is home to Acorn Street; What many call, the cutest street in the United States (and for good reason). Beacon Hill has just about everything you could ever love when visiting a city – charm, history, beautiful architecture, and a quaintness that can’t be duplicated. When walking Beacon Hill, in many ways, you feel like you’re stepping back in time. With cobblestone streets (leave the heels at home for this part of your Boston tour, ladies), gorgeous flower boxes, and beautiful brick row homes, it will surely win you over if the rest of Boston hasn’t already. While there are many great restaurants and cute shops, it’s fun to walk around and check out the beautiful homes, even if you don’t plan on eating there. A couple noteworthy and Instagrammable Beacon Hill streets to check out: Acorn Street, Pinckney Street, Marlborough Street, and Myrtle Street to name just a few. Get out there and discover the other beautiful streets! 😉

9. Have a Blueberry Mojito at the Top of the Hub

The Top of the Hub is a fancy spot in Boston with amazing views, however, as far as dining, it’s definitely a bit on the overrated side. Will you have a good dinner there? Absolutely, but I always feel like there’s better spots to go in Boston and for a better value. However, that being said, if you’re visiting Boston, you must see the view of Boston from the Top of the Hub. There’s nothing quite like it and on a clear day you can even see Fenway Park (pretty cool if you ask me). Many people get sucked into going to Skywalk in Boston and paying for it. Don’t do that! Instead, when walking into the Prudential Center, tell the attendant at the desk that you’re going to the Top of the Hub. It’s then free of charge. Instead of dinner, opt to go to the bar and make sure to get a blueberry mojito. They’re out of this world!

10. A Fancy Brunch at the Langham Hotel

This doesn’t come cheap (at $75 a person), but if you’re celebrating something special (a birthday, bachelorette weekend, etc.) then you have to check out Sunday City Brunch at the Langham Hotel. Please note that this must be booked ahead of time as it fills up quickly. You can check out this website to reserve your spot. This brunch is as elegant as they come and has many different buffet stations such as hand rolled sushi, a Bloody Mary and Mimosa bar, Belgian waffles made to order, an extensive raw bar, pasta, omelets, crepes, and so much more. You’re definitely going to want to walk it off in stretchy pants after!

Additional Things You Must Do In Boston:

  • Go on a duck tour (super touristy but worth doing once for sure)
  • Eat a lobster roll (Island Creek Oyster Bar, Row 34, James Hook, and Pauli’s are my favorite lobster rolls in Boston)
  • Saturday Chocolate Bar at the Langham Hotel
  • Have a picnic at the Boston Public Garden
  • Go to the Boston Public Market. The United States’ only year round, indoor, locally sustained public market.
  • Walk around Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall to watch street performers (very touristy, but fun to do if you’re visiting for the first time)!
  • Go to Brattle Book Shop. Such a cute spot with an outdoor book shop.
  • Go to the North End and enjoy world famous Italian food. Also make sure to try the pastries. A few favorites are Bova’s (open 24 hours), Mike’s Pastry, and Modern Pastry. Get prepared to wait in line and many only take cash so your best bet is to take some cash with you.

What a great article! Taking all of these into consideration for a girls trip coming up in October! However, do you have any hotels/areas you recommend? Somewhere centralized and easy to get around? Thanks much!
